Food label design, front and back of pack
The back of a pack is where most food packaging goes wrong. Allergens, nutrition tables, recycling marks and minimum type sizes get squeezed in at the end, and the design breaks. Prowlup plans them from day one.
Regulation-aware layout
Mandatory mentions are a design constraint like any other. Before the first sketch, a detailed client brief collects every technical and regulatory input: formats, net quantity, ingredients, allergens, nutrition, origin, recycling and certification marks. The layout is built around them, so the front of pack keeps its impact and the back of pack stays readable.
What we account for in France and the EU
Prowlup’s French labelling checklist covers the points that most often break a layout: allergen emphasis in the ingredients list as required by EU Regulation 1169/2011 (INCO), a minimum x-height of 1.2 mm for mandatory text (0.9 mm when the largest surface of the pack is under 80 cm²), the Triman recycling mark, and the Nutri-Score where the brand uses it. Checklists for the UK, the USA and the UAE are in preparation.
Front and back of pack, one system
Front and back are designed together. Type, colour and grid carry from the hero panel to the nutrition table, so the pack reads as one object and every reference in a range follows the same structure. When a new flavour arrives, the back of pack is already a template.
What stays with you
We design the label; we do not provide legal validation. Final regulatory sign-off stays with your quality team, regulatory consultant or importer, who confirms the wording and claims for each market. Copywriting and translation are not included.
Who this is for
Food and drink startups preparing their first retail listing. Established brands moving into a new market or extending a range. Importers adapting packaging for a new country.
